These 5 watch facts will amaze you!

Why do the hands of a watch turn to the right and not to the left? And what do jeans have to do with watches? Find out the answer to these questions and more here!

Fact 1:

Maybe you've ever wondered what the little pocket inside the big pocket on a pair of jeans is for? Most people either don't use this pocket at all, or at most use it to store coins. But originally this pocket was actually meant for watches. More specifically, for pocket watches. Because when the jeans were invented, wristwatches were not yet widespread, but many people owned a pocket watch. And to store them safely, this small bag was used.

Fact 2:

If you have ever been to a casino, you may have noticed that there are no watches in the casino. Neither on the wall nor on the wrist of the employees are watches to be found. There is a very simple reason for this. The following principle applies to a casino: the longer a guest stays in the casino, the more money he gambles away. So the goal of casinos is to suppress the guests' sense of time. That's why you won't find any clocks in a casino. For the same reason, by the way, there are no windows in most casinos, as the lighting conditions also have an impact on the sense of time.

Fact 3:

As everyone knows, the hands of a clock run clockwise. But only a few know why this is so. Simply coincidence? No, the reason is the following: the mechanical clock was invented in Europe and Europe is located on the northern hemisphere. But what does this have to do with the direction of the hands? The fact is that before the invention of mechanical clocks, sundials were used. In sundials, the shadow is more or less the "hand" and in Europe this shadow is cast to the right. Now, of course, one can ask the following exciting question: what if not someone in Europe, but for example someone in South America had invented the mechanical clock? Then it would probably be actually so that our today's clocks run left around.

Fact 4:

Maybe you've noticed it before, maybe you haven't. At the latest from now on you will surely pay attention to it in the future. Namely, it's about the fact that in display windows of watch stores, the models on display practically always show the time 10 past 10. In online stores, too, it is usually the case that product images always show this time. Why is that? The following thought is behind it: on the one hand, this hand position should evoke the association of a smiling mouth in the viewer and thus trigger a positive feeling. Second, on most watches with this hand position, the brand logo centered above on the dial is most visible this way.

Fact 5:

Television advertising is ubiquitous these days. From washing machines to clothes to cars to dog food, products of all kinds are advertised on TV. However, the very first paid commercial ever aired on TV was a commercial for a watch brand. The whole thing took place on July 1, 1941 in New York on station WNBT.
