Zurich Airport, January 25, 2023: Denis Lutz returns from the Golden State Tattoo Expo in Pasadena. This event, which took place from January 21st to 23rd, is an inexhaustible source of inspiration for Denis, Creative Director at Louis XVI. Constantly looking for new ideas that could change the watch industry, one particular idea stuck with him this morning: a tattoo on a watch. The combination of the artistic expressiveness of a tattoo and the elegance of a watch fascinates him. This vision could be the next big thing in the world of watches.

Laser engraving
The process begins with laser engraving, which creates fine and detailed patterns on the watch case. These engravings create voids on the surface of the watch that are later filled.
Hand application of the UV-curing ink: The cavities created by the laser engraving are filled by hand with a special black UV-curing ink. This step is particularly demanding as it requires precision and a trained eye to apply the ink evenly and without overflow.

Curing under UV light
After the ink is applied, it is cured under ultraviolet light. This process gives the ink extreme durability and makes it resistant to scratches and abrasion.
Satin Polish: After the ink has hardened, the watch receives a satin polish. This surface treatment ensures that the watch is less susceptible to fingerprints and minor scratches compared to high-gloss surfaces. The satin finish offers a successful balance between aesthetics and practicality, giving the watch a sophisticated yet understated look.
